You run your hand across the smooth plank, swirls and streams of fine grain lead the eye along the beautifully sanded edges. A delicate joinery mingling with raw and rusty steel create line and rhythm. You realize this is not any ordinary coffee table.
Reason #25 to come into LiT....our new furniture.
Reason #25 to come into LiT....our new furniture.
We are showing a new line of furniture from our friends at Piano Nobile. The furniture, a combination of wood and metal, is entitled Semaphore. Inspired by the flag system used to convey information at a distance by means of visual signals with hand-held flags, rods, disks, paddles or occasionally bare or gloved hands adopted in the maritime world in the early 1800's.
Designers Nick and Isabelle Robertson are the proud parents of Piano Nobile and describe it as, "artists, designers, and builders. "We are a gallery, a workshop, and a design studio. Some of us are siblings; all of us are friends." It is indeed these friendships and talents, plus the combination of a fine understanding of their materials which define Piano Nobile.
Not only are our Piano friends talented, but like LiT they too care about mother earth when it comes to their designs. They try to use all-natural, sustainable materials whenever possible. Whether creating small edition prints on organic cotton, to building beautifully designed furniture out of reclaimed regional hardwoods, to constructing a site-sensitive plan for a green home, Piano Nobile gives much thought to how they create.
LiT is proud to have Piano Nobile in house, we look forward to a gallery show featuring their pieces in late April/early May.
